Organized in cooperation with MLGP4Climate (an initiative by EU4Energy Transition Project) and Gap Fund on May 21, 2024, Financial Instruments & Funding Opportunities Workshop brought together representatives of various municipalities in Istanbul.
Tailored to provide participants with comprehensive information on financial instruments, funding opportunities and the key points of submitting successful project proposals, the workshop also targeted to raise awareness on secure, comprehensive, resilient, smart and sustainable urbanization approaches.
The event started with a presentation by Daiva Matoniene, Team Leader of EU4Energy Project. Informing participants about the functioning mechanism of the platform, MLGP4Climate, Matoniene addressed how municipalities contribute to Sustainable Energy Climate Action Plan (SECAP) process. The program continued with another presentation by Helena Monteiro, the Global Focal Point for GCoM-GAP Fund Partnership.
After briefly informing the participants about the functioning mechanism and targets of GAP Fund, Monteiro gave the start for an interactive session, through which the participant municipalities were integrated into the event. As part of the interactive session, the participants were split up into six groups to present their sample project proposals, designed with a focus on climate and climate-friendly issues. The group 5, which was contributed by a UCLG-MEWA representative, won the contest with the project sample prepared with a focus on the improvement of urban green spaces and heath islands.
UCLG-MEWA delegation had the chance of networking and fostering its relations with the host platforms and the participant municipalities.
