The first Subnational Voluntary Review “VSR Türkiye Workshop” was organized under the auspices of Karatay Municipality. The workshop addressed the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level, the current situation, and priority areas with the contributions of stakeholders.
The workshop, aimed to strengthen the VSR Türkiye process, conducted by the Urban Studies Institute, with local contributions, and evaluated the contributions of municipalities to the sustainable development goals, the challenges encountered, and proposed solutions. The VSR Türkiye Report, which is still under preparation, is planned to be shared with the public in March 2026.
Mayor of Karatay Hasan Kılca emphasized that sustainable development forms the basis of Karatay’s local governance approach and expressed his satisfaction at hosting Turkiye’s first VSR meeting.
UCLG-MEWA Deputy Secretary General Ali Murat Duman stated that Karatay’s work in the field of sustainability will constitute an important reference for the VSR process. Emir Osmanoğlu, General Director of the Urban Studies Institute, stated that VSR Türkiye will be a national reference document for local governments, while Lead Author Dr. Cemal Baş said that the report will be shaped by contributions of stakeholders.
