The strong relations and good governance established between cities in the MEWA region have an integral role in solving economic and social problems which is part of the cities’ agenda. UCLG-MEWA Committee on City Diplomacy and Local Governance was established with the aim of strengthening this crucial role of the local governments in line with its other role in establishing cooperation on global agendas, such as the United Nations’ Agenda 21 and subsequent Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals.
