Registration deadline: 23 January 2026
Event Dates: 9–20 March 2026
The 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) will take place in New York from March 9 to 20, 2026.
CSW70 will convene UN Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited civil society organizations to advance global commitments on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Themes
The Priority Theme of CSW70 is Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including through inclusive and equitable legal systems, the elimination of discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and the removal of structural barriers.
The Review Theme focuses on Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, as key drivers of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Further information on CSW70 is available here.
UCLG-MEWA strongly encourages the nomination and participation of locally elected women, in line with our shared commitment to advancing women’s leadership at local, regional, and global levels.
Consistent with past practice, engagement by the local and regional government constituency will be concentrated primarily during the first week of CSW70 (March 9, 2026), which will offer key advocacy, dialogue, and visibility opportunities.
Local and Regional Governments’ Statement
The consolidated statement of local and regional governments towards CSW70, developed within the framework of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments (GTF) and facilitated by UCLG, is available here.
Registration and UN Access
Access to official CSW70 sessions and side events within UN premises requires prior registration or a valid UN Grounds Pass. The registration deadline is January 23, 2026.
Given the very limited accreditation capacity through UCLG, members are strongly encouraged to seek participation by joining national delegations.
For coordination purposes and to support the mapping of the UCLG delegation, participants are requested to complete the UCLG pre-registration form.
