We are pleased to inform you about an upcoming opportunity for one Mayor from the MEWA region to participate in the World Mayors Tour of China, taking place from 16 to 20 October 2026 in Fujian Province, followed by the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Local Government Cooperation and International Friendship Cities Dialogue in Fuzhou on 17 October and the 2026 China International Friendship Cities Conference in Xi’an from 20 to 22 October.
The initiative is organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) in cooperation with UCLG. UCLG has invited each Section to propose one Mayor to participate in this international program. The participating Mayor may also be accompanied by one additional person.
The program will provide an excellent opportunity to:
-
Exchange experiences with local government leaders from China and other parts of the world;
-
Learn about recent developments, innovations, and practices in Chinese cities;
-
Explore opportunities for city-to-city cooperation and international partnerships; and
-
Strengthen the international engagement and visibility of participating municipalities.
Please note that the program will be conducted in English; therefore, the participating Mayor and accompanying person should have sufficient English proficiency to actively participate.
According to the information provided by CPAFFC, the organizers will cover the domestic costs related to the program, including accommodation, internal transportation, lunches, and dinners. International travel to and from China will be at the participant’s own expense.
