Call for Contributions! | MEWA Agora, Issue 53

We are pleased to invite contributions for Issue 53 of MEWA Agora, under the theme: “Human-Centric Cities: Advancing Social Equity and Economic Development.” This issue will focus on how Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) are advancing the “Right to the City”, supporting the social adaptation of migrants and refugees, expanding access to inclusive healthcare, and reducing poverty at the local level. It will highlight how MEWA cities are placing people at the center of urban policy and delivering fairer, more inclusive local economies.

For reference, you may explore previous issues of MEWA Agora to gain insight into the publication’s scope and approach.

Thematic Focus Areas

Contributions may address the following topics:

  • Upholding the “Right to the City” for all residents, including access to housing, public space, and basic services
  • Social integration of migrants and refugees through local policy and services
  • Inclusive and accessible local healthcare systems
  • Poverty alleviation and social protection at the municipal level
  • Local economic development, decent work, and support for small businesses and the informal economy
  • Inclusion of women, youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities in urban planning and decision-making
  • Cross-border and regional partnerships addressing shared social challenges in the MEWA region

Global Alignment

This issue aligns with major global milestones in the final quarter of 2026, most notably the UN Climate Conference (COP31) in Antalya in November, with a special focus on the MEWA climate roadmap, and the UN Water Conference in December. It also coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December), Human Rights Day (10 December) and International Migrants Day (18 December), contributing to global discussions on the role of local governments in building equitable, inclusive, and climate-resilient societies.
