UCLG-MEWA Participated in the Webinar “Lebanese Municipalities: What Support Can International Cooperation Provide?”

UCLG-MEWA R&D and Projects Coordinator Yehia Ibrahim participated in the webinar “Lebanese Municipalities: What Support Can International Cooperation Provide?” which brought international partners and local actors together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing municipalities in Lebanon.

Drawing on regional perspectives, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of empowering municipalities to take a stronger role in addressing contemporary urban challenges. In this context, practical suggestions were shared on how international cooperation and broader engagement can provide municipalities with the tools they need to respond effectively and sustainably.

The event provided a valuable platform to exchange views on the most pressing issues confronting local authorities, including institutional capacity, service delivery, and financial constraints. Concrete examples of decentralized cooperation were presented, highlighting how partnerships with international actors can help municipalities enhance their resilience and governance capacity.

The webinar also focused on strengthening operational dialogue between Lebanese municipalities and international stakeholders. Discussions explored a wide range of technical, institutional, and financial support mechanisms that can be mobilized to address current challenges and foster sustainable local development.

By joining this event, UCLG-MEWA affirmed its commitment to supporting municipalities in Lebanon and across the region through enhanced cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building. UCLG-MEWA will continue to play an active role in promoting dialogue between local governments and international partners, ensuring that municipalities have the necessary tools and support to serve their communities effectively.
