A cooperation agreement was signed between UCLG-MEWA and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) on 21 April 2026 during the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau Meeting in Niğde, Türkiye. The signing ceremony was finalized between Dr. Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary General, and Feyzullah Gündoğdu, Head of UITP Eurasia.
The agreement marks a strategic step toward advancing sustainable urban mobility across the region. While the partnership encompasses a broad agenda, including the development of public transport systems, the promotion of sustainable mobility solutions, and the adoption of innovative urban transport practices, the primary focus is on the 2025 Urban Mobility Report.
The 2025 Urban Mobility Report will serve as a comprehensive assessment of current trends, challenges, and opportunities in urban transportation. The report is expected to provide data-driven insights, highlight regional and global best practices, and offer policy recommendations tailored to the needs of local governments.
Through this initiative, UCLG-MEWA and UITP aim to strengthen the analytical and institutional capacities of municipalities, enabling them to design more efficient, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable transport systems. The report will also support greater alignment with international standards and frameworks, reinforcing the role of local governments in shaping the future of urban mobility.
A similar report was previously published by both institutions, ensuring continuous cooperation between UCLG-MEWA and UITP.
