The TÜBİTAK 1001 Project Workshop titled ” An Analysis on the Actual and Expected Impacts of Adaptations to Remote Work on Travel Behaviors and Housing Location Selection in the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Case of Istanbul-Kocaeli-Tekirdağ Urban Region,” organized by Istanbul Technical University (ITU), was held on July 18, 2024, at ITU Taşkışla Campus.

Also including representatives from UCLG-MEWA, the workshop addressed the adoption of remote working models following the COVID-19 pandemic and their impacts on urbanization, travel habits, and housing location choice. At the event, the project’s outcomes, the plans and policies that could be implemented at the urban and regional level were evaluated.

The program, which began with opening speeches, continued with a project presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Ziya Paköz. The presentation highlighted that during the pandemic, many professions adopted remote working models, but following the end of the pandemic, there has been an increase in the transition to hybrid and on-site working models. It was emphasized that  younger population particularly prefers the hybrid work model.

Then, participants were divided into two groups to discuss the project findings. Concluded with a closing speech, the workshop fostered networking and collaboration opportunities among participants.
